The sisters of Tau Beta Sigma hosted a water balloon fight on Wednesday, Sept. 7, to fundraise money to support the Sound of the South and its alumni.

Julia Orcutt, a senior biomedical sciences major from Helena and treasurer of Tau Beta Sigma, said the goal of the organization is to serve.

“Our goal while we are in Troy is to serve the Sound of the South. We do food, we do ponchos, we do all sorts of stuff for game days and for other things. Nationally, we promote women in the band profession and we promote American bands,” Orcutt said.

The fundraiser is going to support the band to pay for receptions, symphony band concerts, chairs and stands.

Davis Whitfield, a freshman music education major from Sterrett, said he wanted to attend the event simply to get out of the heat, while Christopher Boone, a senior music education major from Niceville, Florida, said he was there to support the sisters.

“We saw it through social media such as Facebook,” said Whitfield. “I wanted to attend today because I want to support my organizations.”

Courtney Miller, a senior music education major from Phenix City and vice president of membership for Tau Beta Sigma, said they want to raise support for others.

“We were hoping to raise money with participants in order to better support the band since that is our main focus, and we also contribute to our alumni band members and directors in the communities to help their programs,” Miller said.
